A NEW £6.5million superschool has opened its doors to pupils.
Children and staff gathered to mark the official opening of John Paul II primary and Ardencraig nursery, near Castlemilk. Youngsters were joined by Archbishop Mario Conti for a party.
The new school, which has a roll of 256 pupils, boasts 11 classrooms, media suite, gymnasium and seven-a-side floodlit all-weather pitches. The new campus is part of Glasgow's pre-12 strategy to modernise and replace the city's crumbling schools. A total of £263m has been invested so far.
The school facilities are available for community use outwith school hours.
Councillor Gordon Matheson, Glasgow's executive spokesman for education, said: "The opening of these new schools is always a very joyous occasion.
"The new school campuses being built across the city are making a huge difference to the education of our youngsters."
